Biography Martin started his playing career
with Malov Youth; a team he would spend five years with
before moving to AB Copenhagen in 1994. He made his AB debut in May 1998
making a substitute appearance in
a 3-0 victory over
Herfølge.
In November 99 Martin spent a few days training with
Sunderland, he returned back to Denmark
but Peter Reid
took no further action in a potential move for the
Dane. In February 2001 Martin had a
trial with Everton but the trial was cut short as
Martin was called up to the Danish national team.
In April 2001 Martin made his senior international
debut in a friendly; replacing Martin Laursen as a 76th
minute substitute in a 3 nil victory over Slovenia in
Copenhagen. This now meant Martin had been capped at
Under-17, Under-18, Under-21 and full international
level.
In January 2002 Martin joined local rivals FC Copenhagen
for €1.35m. Martin signed a four and a half year
contract with FC and during his time there he helped
them win and retain the Danish
Super League title, as well as winning the domestic
double in 2003-2004.
On Thursday 3rd June 2004,
Gary Megson brought the Danish international to The
Hawthorns in a record £2.7 million deal. Martin became
the most expensive signing in the clubs history, a record
that has since been eclipsed by the arrival of Robert Earnshaw from
Cardiff City. Martin signed a three year
contract with a year's option in the club's favour.
