Biography
Leon
Barnett joined Albion in July 2007 for an initial £2.5m rising to £3m
depending on appearances and whether Albion regain their Premiership
status during his time with the club. The 6ft 2" centre half who is
also a capable midfielder penned a four year deal with a further
option in the clubs favour.
After graduating through the clubs academy ranks in 2002, Barnett
became the first Luton Town player to represent the club at Under 17,
Under 19, reserves and first team level in one season when he made
his senior debut in a LDV Vans Trophy game against Woking in
September 2002. He spent a six month period on loan at non-league
side Aylesbury United in 2004-05 and had to wait until September 2005
to make his league debut for The Hatters in a Championship game
against Hull City. During the second half of the 2005-06 season he
established himself in the heart of the Luton defence and the
following season was named Luton Town’s Player of the Year, his
performances bringing him to the attention of Premiership side
Reading who had a bid rejected by his club. In total Leon made 78
appearances for Luton including 10 as a substitute scoring 3 times.
