Biography
Roman
Bednar was a last minute beat the deadline signing on deadline day in
August 2007 joining
Albion on a season-long loan deal from SPL side Heart of
Midlothian. A strong and quick striker with excellent positional
awareness and aerial ability who was a big favourite at Tynecastle
with the Hearts fans.
Bednar began his career in his homeland with CAFC Prague before
moving to Gambrinus Liga side Bohemians Parague in 1998. After 4
years with the club and failing to break into the first team he moved
on to Czech Second Division side FK Mlada Boleslav and ended his
first season as top scorer with 10 goals as the club won the Second
Division title. The following season he came to the attention of
British club scouts after his 6 goals at the beginning of the
campaign helped his club side consolidate in the top division and was
called the 'Discovery of the Season'. In July of 2005 he joined
Lithuanian side FBK Kaunas but was loaned to Hearts on a season -ong
deal before kicking a ball for the club. He began in fine form for
the SPL club scoring on his debut against Kilmarnock and later scored
the only goal in a 1-0 win over Rangers in November, a game which saw
him pick up a serious knee injury which kept him out for a large part
of the season. He returned to help the side win the Scottish Cup and
made almost 30 League appearances scoring 10 goals in all. He joined
Hearts on a permanent basis in August 2006 and after another injury
hit season moved to The Hawthorns in 2007.
To date Roman has made 1 appearance for the
Full
Czech Republic side, that coming against
Serbia
in August 2006. He has also appeared 4 times for the Under 21 side
scoring twice.
