Biography
Chris Brunt joined Albion in August 2007 signing a 4 year deal for a
£3m fee which includes £500,000 of performance-related add-ons from
Sheffield Wednesday. An out and out left winger with a terrific left
foot, Brunt is also a terrific dead-ball specialist.
Chris began with youth football in Northern Ireland at St Andrews FC
and had trials with Manchester United and Middlesbrough, eventually
joining Boro. After failing to break through at the club, he joined
Sheffield Wednesday on a short term loan deal in 2004. A permanent
free transfer followed in the summer of 2004 where he signed a 2 year
deal at Hillsborough and helped the club achieve promotion to the
Championship at the end of the season scoring 5 times in the process.
The following season of 2005-06 he scored 7 times, finishing as the
clubs top scorer and signed a 1 year extension to his contract.
During the 2006-07 Chris was named Player of the Month for The Owls 6
times and was included in Teamtalk's 'Unsung Heroes in The
Championship' for 2006-07 season. With twelve months remaining on his
contract, talks broke down in the summer of 2007 leading to
speculation linking him to a number of Premiership clubs including
Fulham who had bids rejected. Albion pulled off a coup by meeting
Wednesday’s valuation and signing the player the following day. In
his time at Hillsborough, Chris made 140 League appearances scoring
23 goals.
A current Northern Ireland international with 12 caps for his country
as of September 2007.
