Biography
Carl
Hoefkens completed his move to Albion much to the disappointment of
Stoke City fans who held him in high regard, Hoefkens better known as
a right-back can also operate in midfield and the centre of defence.
He joined Albion for a fee of £750,000 signing a two year deal with a
further 12 month option in the clubs favour. A player described as
having excellent technical ability and also a quality penalty taker.
Hoefkens began his career in Belgium with K Lierse SK where he played
for six years making over 120 appearances scoring a solitary goal. A
move to Lommel in 2001 ended after only two years when the club went
broke and he joined Germinal Beerschot becoming one of the pillars of
the team, helping them to a Belgium Cup win before moving to Stoke
City in 2005 for an undisclosed fee. At the Britannia Stadium he
became a fans favourite winning the fans Player of the Year in his
first season after being an ever-present in the 2005-06 season. With
12 months left on his Stoke City contract, he joined Albion much to
the annoyance of the Stoke faithful who were unhappy with the club
for letting him go for a meagre fee.
Carl, who’s wife is a Belgian glamour model has made 18 appearances
for Belgium scoring one goal, he also appeared in the 1997 Fifa World
Youth Championships and always wears the number 13 shirt for his
country.
