Between the 14th and 26th May 1978, West Bromwich Albion became the first British professional club to tour the Peoples Republic of China and Hong Kong winning all five games. Four of the victories came in China, with the other triumph on the homeward journey.
 
 China Results:
 3-1 v a Pecking X1
 2-0 v China
 2-0 v Shanghai
 6-0 v Kwangtung Province
 
 Hong Kong Result:
 3-0 v a Hong Kong select X1
 
 Milestones:
 Cyrille Regis scored in all five games (six goals in total)

 Return Friendly:
 In August 1979, China came over to England to play the Baggies at The Hawthorns in a return friendly match. A crowd of 11,382 saw Albion win 4-0 with Regis again figuring on the score sheet.
