Northampton Town v West Bromwich Albion COMPETITION: Pre-Season
Friendly
TEAM NEWS
Albion travel to Sixfields
on Wednesday night to
take on League One side
Northampton Town in
their latest pre-season
friendly with newest
recruit Filipe Teixeira
expected to take some
part in the game should
international clearance
be granted in time.
The Portuguese midfielder
who joined up with the
club last week has now
got a few days training
under his belt and has
had the chance to meet
his new team-mates.
Fresh from their Balkans tour Albion will be looking for
their first victory of this pre-season with the three
previous friendlies all ending in draws against Histon
(1-1), Hajduk Split (0-0) and Red Star Belgrade (1-1).
With the defensive part of the side looking tight, the
fans will be hoping for a few more goals to cheer in
this pre-season. It is expected Albion will travel to
Northamptonshire with a full squad but perhaps missing
Neil Clement who has yet to figure so far this
pre-season due to family reasons.
Northampton
Town
with Stuart Gray in charge have played four games so far
this pre-season and like Albion have yet to taste
defeat, they played twice on a tour of America winning
both games 3-1 against UE San Jose and 5-0 against SD
Portmany before returning to England and beating
Kettering Town 1-0. Last Saturday they entertained
Championship side Coventry City and earned a creditable
1-1 draw with Andy Kirk getting the equaliser from the
penalty spot. Goals seemingly not too much of a problem
this pre-season with Andy Holt scoring 3 times in the 10
goals scored so far. With Albion’s defensive record,
something could give either way.
New signings for Town include Danny Jackman, a former
Aston Villa trainee (the 24 year old left-back arrived
on a free transfer from Gillingham), 22 year old Ian
Henderson (utility player from Norwich City), former
Wolves striker Colin Larkin (free transfer from
Chesterfield) and latest signing Giles Coke who arrived
from Mansfield Town with the fee to be decided by
tribunal.
