CARTER &
MACDONALD SEAL EDGAR STREET WIN
On-Loan forward Sherjill MacDonald opened his senior goal account in
an 2-0 victory against Hereford United
Albion fielded new signing Leon Barnett in a side that had a blend of
youth and experience, and this showed in the opening stages of this
game when Hereford took the game too Albion, infact it took eleven
minutes for Albion too create their first meaningful attack when
Carter fed Ellington whose left wing cross was headed clear by
Broadhurst as Nicholson was waiting too pounce.
It was then Herefords turn and Easton forced Daniels into a save on
fifeteen minutes when the Hereford player reacted first too a Barnett
clearance.
The game became a very typical pre-season affair during the second
half with both sides looking at fitness rather than putting on a show
for spectators but the deadlock was nearly broken on thirty minutes
when young midfielder David Worrell produced a pin-point pass that
found Nicholson but Hereford produced some very astute last ditch
defending too avoid the threatening looking Ellington from firing
Albion into the lead.
Just before halftime however Baggies keeper Luke Daniels pulled of an
alert save from six yards from Bull striker Steve Guinan.
Half Time: Hereford United 0 West Bromwich Albion 0
Whatever the Albion management said too the team at half time it
certainly worked as they were the quickest out of the blocks
Young Dutchman MacDonald showed great strength as he brushed past the
Hereford defence only too see his show hit the inside of the post
before being cleared too safety.
Albion continued too dominate the early part of the second half with
MacDonald and Ellington being denied by some good defending from
Hereford, however on 51 minutes Carter reacted well too a MacDonald
through ball and his curled right foot shot from just inside the 18
yard box nestled into the bottom corner.
Albion then nearly made it 2-0 straight from the restart when
Ellington capitalised on a defensive error but his shot was weak and
was easily gathered by Lewis in goal.
Herefords fortune ran out on 57 minutes when the impressive MacDonald
scored his first senior goal with a good run and shot past the
helpless Lewis.
Herefords best chance of the second half fell too West Bromwich born
Simon Johnson whose excellent planted shot was well saved by
substitute keeper Luke Steele.
