To Boo or Not to Boo that is the Question

To Boo or Not to Boo that is the Question.

Ok if you're expecting to read something about strange sexual habits or an alcoholic drink (By the way Taboo or Mirage - which one are you?) then you will be sorely disappointed. I am of cause talking about booing at football matches.

The days seem to have gone when the only time anyone booed was when you went on a 15 game loosing streak and a few of the more hard core fans thought it was about time for a change in management. Now we seem to boo at anything - the team loose a game there’s booing, the team are loosing at half time there’s booing, we'll boo the other team, we'll boo one of there players/manager, we'll boo one of our player on the pitch, warming up, coming off, the list goes on and on.

A couple of things I've read over the last few weeks have made me think about this in a bit of detail. There was a discussion thread on the forum about Bryan Robson which quickly turned into a, to boo or not to boo discussion for when he comes to The Hawthorns with his Sheffield United team. He's our ex-manager so some are going to boo because he wasn't a very good manager for us, others think he shouldn't be booed because he was a bloody good player for us way back when.

Now the question shouldn't be should we/shouldn't we boo him because he was a rubbish manager/great player, it should be would booing Bryan Robson help WBA win. And that’s the question we should ask before booing anyone, because it seems to me that supporters these days don't boo for the good of the club (ie to get rid of a miss guided chairman) but to vent for there own personal grudges. In most cases it's not rivalry it is literally hatred - I hate the Wolves Boooooooo, I hate Cutis Davis boooooooo, I hate Bryan Robson boooooooo, this to me doesn't help the club at all.

And this leads into the other thing I read that disturbed me. I was shocked at how much coverage there was over the minutes silence at the Man U/Man City game and how Man City wanted a minutes clapping instead because they were afraid that the dignity of the situation would be spoiled by people booing!! Now for me for anyone to boo a minutes silence goes way beyond Rivalry and way beyond football - that is just yob culture.
