The on-going circus with Kevin Phillips' contract is beginning to cause chagrin amongst the Albion faithful. Super Kev has bagged 18 points single-handedly in his customary role as super sub. The strikes against Charlton, Sheffield Wednesday, Colchester and Blackpool to name a few have hoisted the Baggies to within touching distance of the promised land.
He is a proven marksman with an astute football brain of the type that is hard to find in any of the leagues. He is proven in elevated divisions. The wrangle with Chairman Peace revolves around whether he should be awarded a 2 year contract on account of his age and ability to cope with razor sharp reflexes that differentiate between prolific goalscoring or inept near misses in the Premier League.
This appears to be a very mercenary stance by Peace. What has to be considered is the inflated dividends the Directors and the Chairman will get when Albion elevate to the Premier League courtesy to the efforts of Kevin Phillips who has made a massive contribution.
This should be offset against the wisdom of employing someone of 34 years in the toughest league in the world without prejudicing against him on grounds of age.
