Westbrom.com Exiled Baggies
This section of the site is for Baggie exiles, let us know a little about yourself, some Albion memories and how you eventually became a Baggie in exile. Send yours to the  Editor at westbrom.com.

David Law : Who lives in Zagreb, Croatia, tells us all about being an exiled Baggie and how it all began.

"Regis takes it well on the chest, and that's a lovely piece of control by Regis, and OH WHAT A SHOT, OH WHAT A GOAL FOR THE SEASON! CYRILLE REGIS!!!"

Those were the words of Alan Parry 22 years ago, describing the greatest goal I have ever seen in person, on Match of the Day. Later in the programme, Jimmy Hill, a pioneer in every way possible from broadcasting to football, picked up on a tabloid story which detailed how Regis would rather score a goal (and in-so-doing end his goal drought), than have a valentines kiss from Bo Derek. Sure enough, just after seeing Regis score the miraculous goal for a second time, Derek's picture appeared on screen, with her voice, via telephone, congratulating him on his goal and throwing a big kiss his way.

I was 8 years old then.

Now, just about to turn 30, I live in Zagreb, Croatia having become a freelance tennis journalist and following my fiance' to her home town, but as happy as I am, I'd not be the same bloke without the Baggies. Some people don’t' understand that - how can football get you so worked up? The truth is, it's in the blood. My Dad took me when I was 6, his Dad took him when he was 6, and we all fell in love with the blue and white stripes. It's an identity, a family, a sense of belonging. My Grandad isn't with us any more, but whenever I think of Albion I think of him. And I love them both.

You'd be surprised how well people in Zagreb know the Baggies! An educated football lot they are, and the reputation of the club goes before it. We're Albion, say we are Albion, we're Albion till we die.

I may not see each match,
I may feel somewhat detached,
But there's one thing I'll tell you I know,
I'll follow you Albion wherever I go.

David Law
