Mowbray launches £3m bid for Bolton defender
IT JUST MEITE WORK
TONY MOWBRAY has launched a £3million bid to save Abdoulaye Meite from his Bolton nightmare.

Meite, 27, is free to leave Wanderers after infuriating boss Gary Megson and team-mates by going on strike at half-time in the defeat at Manchester United in March.

Hull have already failed with a move to take the giant centre-half but the Baggies are the latest club to register their interest.

Galatasaray are also in the hunt but West Brom are desperate to strengthen a defence that conceded 55 goals last season.

I was at that game. Bolton were horrific. None of the defenders looked anything like Premiership footballers.

Apparently, Meite said their was a missunderstanding in the incident and he didn't refuse.

Good signing imo

If he did refuse to play then I cant see Mowbray wnating him. If it was Megson getting angry over nothing then it might have some truth in it. Both the Mirror and the NOTW carried the rumour.

Would be a good signing imo. The sort of player we definatly need. Dont really care about that whole United incident, blown out of proportion by Megson no doubt.

Because Megson has never fallen out with players over nothing and frozen players out?

It depends who you believe as Meite said he was struggling with an injury during the first half and couldn't play for the second but Megson didn't believe he was injured. There are always two sides to every story it just depends who you want to believe.

Do you know the actual story or going off newspaper reports that quite frankly are made up, dramatised and usually a ton of [moderated word]??

Id like to see him at the Baggies it just what we need... people moan that we are not linked with defenders, then we do get linked with one who happens to be half decent and people moan and say we dont want him.... Roll Eyes

Undecided. Can he actually play, or is he like a Darren Moore?

Get him in, great player under Allardyce, Ivory Coast international, played for Marsielle.

I imagine the refusing to come out 2nd half thing was blown out, he's already said no one would not want to play against a club like Man Utd so he was geniunley injured.

Okay player, similar to Darren Moore, except a bit quicker and more skillful and unlike Big Dave hated by GM, i wouldn't be upset if he ends up here, although i'd hope for better

I've nothing but respect and admiration for Sir Gary, but i wouldn't take a falling out with him as a sign of an irredeemable character, his treatment of Super Bob, was, well just playground bullying, childish and vindictive, he also ended up training with the youth team, and no one could ever accuse Bob of being anything but a gentleman and consummate professional. Also GM is not unknown to spin events in his favour, and to be quite nasty his vitriol about Jason Roberts was deeply unpleasant, and not all together accurate.

Not surprised Meite refused to go out second half, GM slaughtered him at half time ridiculing him and getting other team mates to join in the abuse, GM has sailed very close to being lamped by a player a few times, one day a player will not show the restraint Taylor, Meite and others have.

Do you know that is true Dengar because that certainly is a strong accustation to make?

If the story is as Megson says then he might be bad for the dressing room. I am certainly put off the Reading defenders for the same reason. We do know Megson does fall out with players a lot though so it is up to Mowbray. I think Mowbray will look into it before going for him though, he wouldnt sign somebody bad for the dreesing room.

One of the few things i've some knowledge on (although i wasn't there at the time) don't misunderstand me, i've nothing but admiration for GM, and i'm not one of those that holds a grudge against him, but sometimes, as with all managers, things turn ugly.

GM likes to make an example of how/ or how he doesn't expect players to behave when he first joins a club, poor old Sneekes was voluntered for this role with us
