I'm not sure how many of you follow tennis, but I'm sure you all know that Wimbledon starts on Monday. Rafael Nadal has been ruled out of the tournament with a knee injury, which means that, based on world rankings, Andy Murray is the second favourite. Murray also has excellent records gainst players that could challenge him, e.g. Roger Federer and Andy Roddick. However, as with all British players at Wimbledon, Murray will probably get to the quarter-finals and lose!

He is Scottish not british, hate the jumped up [moderated word]. I normally watch Wimbledon in patches. Shame Nadal isnt there to compete as he is an unreal player.

I took an instant dislike to Andy Murray as he came across as an arrogant tosser the first time a saw him. Since then I just haven't really liked him, he is a very good player though.

I do tend to watch the second week of Wimbledon, never too bothered with the first week.

Disliked Murray since his comments during tha last world cup when he was asked who he wanted to win.

His reply ' Whoever's playing England'!

He back pedalled later when he realised what a PR disaster that was but it was enough for me!

I think his desire to be succesful is misunderstood as arrogance, hes alo more mentally strong than what we have had before

That didn't really bother me too much to be fair, he's a young Scottish lad and any other would have probably said the same thing.

I know what you're saying but I now what Greg means as well. When a Englishmen does well, he's English when a Welshman, Scotsman or Northern Irishman does well he's classed as British.

Ask Murray if he's British or Scottish and he will this week say British, any other time Scottish as he wants the crowd behind him. I remember him once coming out with some crap about being Scottish and not British, can't remember exactly what it was, bad memory .

Me, i'm English and proud, not British. Be careful we may soon all be expected to class ourselves as European only.  Undecided

Yeah i'm a tad to sensitive about the Scots really with Gordon Brown and Co ripping the pee out of the English and the majority of them disliking us.
In fairness I don't watch tennis I thinks its a game for Toffs but I probably would want him to win Wimbledon

I like Derek McInnes though he's genuinely a top bloke Grin

Oh and Graham Dorrans another nice chap when I spoke to him!

He's British when he wins, and Scottish when he loses! Wink
I enjoy watching him play, as he has a bit of passion, unlike Tim Henman. This is Murray's best chance of winning Wimbledon, so he really needs to try and take it. Hopefully he will as, if Murray doesn't win, Federer will, and he is the most arrogant tennis player around.

Thats what I was referring to someone said about him being British and he goes get it straight I am Scottish. Hope Federer beats him if they play each other.

HATE Andy Murray almost as much as I hate Paul Robinson. He is a complete [moderated word] who clearlly has a ego problem and stated that he does not like the English.

Despite him being a awsome player and being British, I will stil cheer for anyone who plays against him.

This happened in Formula one also, with David Coulthard, when they was no English racers around they called him British.
I think it should be Scottish if Scottish and English if English, makes it easier enough except for the Olympics we should all count as one Nation.

That's interesting, because I'm the exact opposite. I'm proud to be British, and feel no great affinity with the nation/region/country/whatever it is called England. But I do agree it would be a travesty to be first and foremost European.

I can understand that you feel like that to be fair. Without going on about you being younger blah blah in the wrong way, when I was younger there was plenty of English patriotism around which nowadays seems to be either not allowed or is just frowned upon, but thats another story. These days its all different.

I bet people like very old baggie and others around that age bracket would notice it even more.

Get your money on Murray for BBC Sports Personality of The Year. This is the best, and only. chance anyone has of beating Button.

That said Federer is back up to the standards he was setting a few years ago so it'll be interesting to see how Murray fairs against an on-song Federer. Personally, at this moment in his career, I doubt he could get near him.

Grat chance for Murray to win. Im not sure if id see it as a win representing me though. I think Murray in his heart would see himself winning fornot for Britain.

I think it's only really the athletics and maybe the Lions tour where you feel united behind British sportsmen and womne. Maybe also the cricket if you count out Irish and Welsh players.
